Do you remember the first time you ever meditated?
Do you remember the first time you ever meditated? It’s okay if you don’t! There could be a time where you did not know what you were doing was meditating, then in the future you realize “huh, i think i was actually meditating there.” Or maybe you’re like me and you remember the first time you were being guided through a meditation and it was pivotal for you. It was in my high school social studies class, the teacher was named Mr. McCorckle (yes, he was a lovely man close to retirement, that i remember did not pick favorites and treated everyone as equals, a bonus that his name is fun to say) who read a guided meditation to us off of a piece of paper. From what I remember, he told us to close our eyes and imagine a beautiful nature scene of our preference, somehow I still remember that i pictured a beautiful beach with mountains. He then told us to imagine that we are there, then I woke up! Hahaha, oopsy! I was a very tired teenager and slept any chance I could get. Yet, I remember how that guided meditation, that nap, made me feel much more replenished than the rest. Honestly, I am amazed that I still remember this. That tells me that it was a very profound experience. I did not dive into the world of meditation just yet after Mr. McCorckle’s guidance, I was a teenager who thought I knew it all. A few years after high school I did seek out meditation again to help me sleep and relax, only from time to time. Even then, I still did not realize just how powerful it was. It wasn’t until 2020 when I took a 200 hour Yoga and Meditation teacher training and learned a meditation technique I had never used before (Anapanasati, which means; mindfulness of breathing) that I realized just how amazing meditation is and how with consistency and a little effort, I can use it to change me all for the better. I need more than a few words to even describe that in and of itself! So, meditation came and went from my life, helping me here and there, until I committed to meditating EVERY DAY. That’s when my addictions started to diminish, I became more disciplined in different areas of my life, my relationships improved, I became over all more happy. One of the beauties of meditation is that we all find it in our own way. We all use different techniques at different times for different reasons and no one can tell you if you’re doing it right or wrong because only you really know what’s going on in there. Here is a guided meditation for you to start to check out what you’ve really got going on in there.
